So you want to use the cordless phone in addition to your other landline, rather than as a replacement? With a different voice number? How often do you and Mrs Penguin both need to talk on a landline at the same time?
This is so complicated and stressful I need some gum!
So you want a cordless phone because your old telephone doesn't ring loud enough? Why not get one of these: (I can't be bothered with the html) http://www.eva66.de/ursprung/w61/w61_oben.jpg : a very, very loud, solid ring with real bells. About 10 euros via ebay; and assuming it works at all, it'll even work with your ISDN a/b-Wandler thingy.
No, we require the cordless telephone to work with the existing landline telephone, using the same number; the acoustics at Penguin HQ mean we don't always hear the existing telephone until it's too late, and it would be nice to have a telephone not tied to one room. Unfortunately the only way we can take incoming calls on the thing is via the fax and its slightly different number, and it would be a bit difficult to explain to people "if you want to send a fax or talk to us in room A, ring this number; if we're in room B or you want to talk to the lady who lives in the answering machine whom my grandmother still thinks is Mrs. Penguin, call this other number". However, I poked around in the ProMarktSaturnMedia place today and it appears there are TAE-adapters with two F sockets (rather than the more common NF or NFN combinations), so I shall pop along to Conrad where they'll be cheaper and the staff more likely to be able to answer my question.
KMS, nice try - I'm impressed someone has dedicated a whole website to a type of GDR telephone, but I'm not sure whether it would work with the capitalist phone system. Or if it did, it wouldn't work properly with the Analogue Converter Thingy, because that only likes phones with tone dialling. It's supposed to work with pulse dialling, but doesn't (I tried to persuade my previous 80's style Siemens-Bundespost phone to work with it; it would ring, but nothing else happened). |
Who,What,FAQWho
Mount Penguin is technically British, but has lived in Berlin for like yonks. WhatThis is a blog of odd stuff he comes across in everyday life, etc. Bit of a lucky dip really. FAQI did originally intend to put together what one day might be the ultimate Berlin FAQ. Due to global warming that hasn't yet happened, but nevertheless if you have any questions about Berlin, feel free to ask them here and I'll see if I can find an answer... Meanwhile...Do come and visit my other blog where there's likely to be more hot penguin action. Comments about IKEA Shelving Festival!
