Why does my "clever" Funkuhr (radio clock, you know, those things that get the time via radio waves) always get confused by summer time and show me GMT+1 all year round? Even though its display says "Sommerzeit" ? Everytime I change it, whenever it picks up the signal from Wuppertal or whereever, it changes back. Can be quite annoying. Luckily I have about 9 alarm clocks.
note from the penguin apologies, the software seems to have problems with your very long user name, which is why the comment initially disappeard into internet nirvana.
That, as they say, is a very good question. Maybe the boffins in Wuppertal haven't noticed the change in time? You know how it is with these boffin types.
And it's not just Händys, I've only just noticed my DVB-T decoder box things is still on winter time. Mind you it still thinks it's receiving BBC World, so no hope there.
Just imagine that BBC World has turned into a shopping (daytime) and "tits 'n' arse" phone line channel (mid-late evening). It's not too much to imagine, considering the standards of the BBC these days. Beats advertisements for various dictatorships' tourist boards anyway. If you live in a vaguely modern house you may well be paying through your Betriebskosten for cable television anyway. Then you can get a cable digibox for a few Euros and watch the BBC to your heart's content.
We used to have cable until the cable company started wanting money for it, but then it was too late because DVB-T came on the scene and we have direct line-of-sight to the Fernsehturm. Must check the socket one of these days though to see if they've reinstated it by accident or something. Still, life without BBC World is strangely bearable, now I have found the exploding caravans on Youtube.
I have a similar problem. I have a US T-mobile phone and it NEVER changes to the local time when I go to Berlin. I am forever stuck in US Pacific Time.

Who,What,FAQWho
Mount Penguin is technically British, but has lived in Berlin for like yonks. WhatThis is a blog of odd stuff he comes across in everyday life, etc. Bit of a lucky dip really. FAQI did originally intend to put together what one day might be the ultimate Berlin FAQ. Due to global warming that hasn't yet happened, but nevertheless if you have any questions about Berlin, feel free to ask them here and I'll see if I can find an answer...
