You'll have plenty of freezing air when you get back - although it's actually relatively boiling here at the moment - so enjoy it while you can. Hope those festering t-shirts last till you can get them back to a good old German washing-machine.
By dint of walking through the back streets around the hotel I stumbled across a cleaners who seemed to be happy to take on a bag of textile items in varying states of persipiration damage for about the price it would cost me to do it myself in Berlin.
Only problem is I forgot to go and pick them up and am now almost out of undies.
Are you back yet (and back up to speed with clean knickers)? I ask because there's another Stammtisch this very evening...
Underwear situation is under control, but am still in the "LoS" (Land of Smiles).
It is nice to discover the other Berlin bloggers out there. I'm not quite sure why I haven't stumbled upon these sites before. Call me self-absorbed, I suppose. Or too busy trying to figure out this place myself.
Are you STILL there, all these weeks later? Sweaty and dirty?
Yup, another few days to go, though I have managed to have a shower or two in the meantime.
Crazy, crazy place. Insects are tasty though.
...and there's another one this Thursday. Perhaps you could dazzle folk with newness and tannedness.
OK, am in the country again, where did all the leaves go? And who switched the heating off?
Alas I spent most of the time when the sun was out shuttling between airconditioned environments, so no tannedness. Could dazzle with jetlaggedness though.
November is not a good time. You must be over your jetlag and be reacclimatised by now. More blogging please, sir!
Actually I was just looking out of the window at the chill, blustery precipitation event occurring out there and wondering whether to end it all now or hop on a plane back somewhere warmer. But you're right, there's always blogging to look forward too, I think I can make something out of my adventures with a screwdriver and the vacuum cleaner this morning.
That's the spirit. But Thai lessons? Are you thinking of taking the next immigrant/emigrant step?
Oh, I'm still doing some work for them which involves processing Thai script, so I thought it might be nice if I had at least a vague idea about the whole business. There also may be the possibility of a return trip, in which case I would like to be able to direct the local taxi drivers in their own language rather than with gestures and pidgin English. (Evidently a working knowledge of Bangkok is not a prerequisite for becoming a taxi driver there).
And in any case it's a nice intellectual challenge and gets me away from the computer.
Before we went on holiday to Thailand, I had a fantasy that I would learn the Thai alphabet so that I'd at least be able to read and not be totally useless as I saw friends who came to visit me in Russia were. Then I looked at those 700, to me utterly identical, squiggles and gave up. Still, I used to shout khawp khun kharp, or whatever thank you is, wih vigour when I was there. That was rewarding.

Who,What,FAQWho
Mount Penguin is technically British, but has lived in Berlin for like yonks. WhatThis is a blog of odd stuff he comes across in everyday life, etc. Bit of a lucky dip really. FAQI did originally intend to put together what one day might be the ultimate Berlin FAQ. Due to global warming that hasn't yet happened, but nevertheless if you have any questions about Berlin, feel free to ask them here and I'll see if I can find an answer... Meanwhile...Do come and visit my other blog where there's likely to be more hot penguin action. Comments about IKEA Shelving Festival!
